With no Sunday practise session it was straight into the first round of qualifying on a damp but drying track. Most soon found their lines and grip .
In 200mm Touring 2009 champion Kyle Branson lead the way from Adam Catchpole and Joe Kerry. Sports GT saw 2009 Champion Glyn Beale proving he has lost none of his talent with the fastest time. Scale Rubber saw Peter Lague at the top of the timing sheets. Sadly the Truck class only saw 2 entries for this round with Simon Smith well clear at the top.
With a track rapidly drying a grip levels rising the final 2 rounds saw most drivers times improving rapidly. In 200mm Touring Kyle Branson recorded the only 20 lap run of the day and a new outright track record into the bargain with Joe Kerry and Johnathan Dobney just a few seconds back. Sports GT’s qualifying was topped by Glyn Beale from the pair of hard charging 220mm GT Cars driven by Mark Christopher and Lee Chapman.
Scale Rubber saw Ryk Pryke topping the timing sheets from Peter Lague and Devandra Mehatme while Simon Smith held top spot in truck qualifying.
First final to be run was a combined B Final 200mm Touring and Truck final which was won by Simon Smith from Matthew Cook with Nigel Philpott in a distant third.
In the new class of Sports GT a rather surprised Bob Harley led initially until Glyn Beal assumed the lead on lap 3. Mark Christopher also passed Bob and set about catching a very hard charging Glyn with Richard Boult further back in 3rd place. On lap 37 disaster struck for Glyn when his engine cut requiring a quick recovery and pit stop. Mark was to benefit from this until disaster struck for him on lap 56. With Bob running out of fuel at the most inopportune moment the heavy impact damaged Mark’s steering. While managing to limp to the finish and hold second place he could do nothing to stop Glyn catching and eventually overtaking him , a position he held to the finish with Richard Boult in 3rd.

Round 1 At Stonehaven Club on 4th April 2010
A trip of four seasons, given the conditions encountered by some on the trip up this was certainly true.
These were certainly true words as for the first time theBRCA 1/10 IC section held it opening National round of the season at the Stonehaven track near Aberdeen. With various weather warnings a lower than normal contingent made the long trip to the north of Scotland. Despite the temperatures the atmosphere and friendliness of the club’s members more than made up for it.
With most if not all drivers new to the track most of Saturday mornings practise sessions were about learning the nuances of the track rather than outright lap times. However by Saturday afternoon most had found their way and were busy concentrating on that illusive set up. Most drivers in Touring , Sports GT and Trucks had soon found the ideal compound and tyre to use and although most soon solved the riddles the scale rubber drivers had their work cut out.
New for 2010 was a control tyre for the rubber class. This was not without its concerns from some as the tyre specification wasn’t really ideal for the low temperatures encountered. However by the end of the days practise some had made good progress, others were slightly less lucky.
As luck would have it no sooner had practise finished for the day than the rain and showers promised during the day materialised.
As is customary Sunday morning opened with the obligatory drivers briefing by Unclebob Harley ably assisted by SDRCC’s race director George Haining.
Sports GT Result
1st Glyn Beal 106 laps 1812.53s
2nd Mark Christopher 105 laps 1808.37
3rd Richard Boult 104Laps 1810.22
In Scale Rubber Peter Lague took an early lead from Ryk Pryke with 2009 champion Michael Ball close behind. From this point Peter was never to look back heading all the drivers home. Despite his valiant efforts Michael was unable to close the gap on Peter sufficiently and had to settle for second with Ryk in a close third.
Scale Rubber Results
1st Peter Lague 93 laps 1819.63
2nd Michael Ball 92 laps 1813.59
3rd Ryk Pryke 90 laps 1814.18
In 200m Touring Kyle Branson showed us why he was 2009 champion. Leading from the start he had soon built a commanding lead. Never to be caught despite a few scares from slower cars he led all the way to the finish. Initially Joe Kerry held a strong second until problems stopped his progress after 30 laps. Johnathan Dobney inherited second place and skilfully held off challenges from Neil King and Adam Catchpole. Sadly Neil’s challenge ended after a mechanical failure on lap 54 leaving Adam in a comfortable 3rd place.
200mm Touring Results
1st Kyle Branson 111 laps 1811.99
2nd Johnathan Dobney 109 laps 1804.30
3rd Adam Catchpole 108 laps 1800.57
Dremel awarded their prize of a 100 piece tool set and T shirt for the Stonehaven round to Alex Thurston . A big thanks must go out to all the Stonehaven club members who put in a tremendous effort to make their first national such a success.
