Round 6 At Snetterton Park in Norfolk on 20th July 2008

The BRCA 1/10th IC 200mm Scale Touring Championship round 6 went to Snetterton Park in Norfolk for a second time this year, it was decided to run in an anticlockwise direction to make it a bit different to our last visit, We arrived Friday and the sun was shining we were all hoping for a dry meeting. John Guest had done a good job with the track preparation.

Saturday
The track was wet from overnight rain so it was 10am before we saw the first cars on the track, but with showers forecast everyone was trying to get dry runs in between the showers. As the afternoon approached the showers were more often but still track time to be had and all were happy no not a miss print everyone was happy.

Sunday
A good weather forecast for today and everyone in good spirits, the vice chairman Wayne Lander called a drivers briefing at 9:15am, he said with only 22 drivers he told everyone that there were only 3 heats and four rounds with a 30minute break in between rounds, the meeting got under way at 9:30am.

Qualifying
Most drivers went for 35 or 37shore tyres in the first round this was a good chose. On round two a lot more took the gamble to go 37 or 40 shore tyres. As round three came round the sun was shining with a few clouds but still a bit windy the grip on the track was just starting to come up. A lot of drivers were having problems with the wind blowing in their eyes while on the rostrum.

Well with qualifying over we had a 30minute break for lunch this also gave people a chance to check their cars and get ready for the finals.
                                                    Finals

C Final
1st Nigel Philpott
2nd Hayley Baker

C Final 15 mins
With only two drivers it was very long for Nigel Philpott and Hayley Baker, as they both went to the starting grid Hayley`s car stalled so had to start from pitlane, by lap 7 Hayley went back into the lead and started to open up a gap and on lap 16 put in her quickest time of 15.03, Nigel was still going strong but as they came in for a fuel stop Hayley`s car stalled and her dad tried and tried but was unable to get it restarted, this put Nigel back in first place and with his quickest lap 35 was in 16.42, so Nigel took the win.

B Final
1st Alex Thurston
2nd Alex Brown
3rd Neil Wallace

B Final 20 mins
Alex Thurston who was 3rd on the grid got a great start went to 1st place for 22 laps lost it to Daniel Williams for 4 laps during a fuel stop, Alex took 1st place back and lead all the way from lap 27. Neil Wallace was having a good race from 5th place was now in 3rd Alex Brown who had a bad start fought his way back to 2nd place by lap 31 his fastest lap of 13.66. Daniel was having problems and was slipping down the field, but Neil was having an excellent race in 3rd place his fastest lap was 13.75 on lap 69, Trevor Villa took 4th place from Matthew Cook on lap 73, Alex Thurston was 2 laps ahead of 2nd place Alex Brown and 3 laps ahead of Neil Wallace.

A Final
1st Kyle Branson
2nd Mark Gilliland
3rd Chris Slater

A Final 30 mins
Kyle Branson took the lead from pole position Mark Gilliland right from the start and Robin Hammett in 3rd place on lap 11 Kyle put in a best lap of 12.98. Chris Slater who was down in 6th place started to make his move on lap 13 with a 13.06. Kyle was the first in for a fuel stop and very quick it was, everyone else fuelled without a problem except Joe Kerry who was in 4th place was called in for a stop and go penalty because his pitman (Dad) put his foot in the pitlane during a fuel stop this dropped Joe to 6th place. Just after the second fuel stop the unbelievable happened Mark Gilliland ran out of fuel, this then gave Robin Hammett 2nd place, and Neal King into 3rd place and Chris Slater in 4th place. Round about the third fuel stop Robin took 1st place for eleven laps as he was running longer fuel stops with his GRP engine, then there was more drama lap 78 saw Robin run out of fuel this cruel blow dropped him to 5th place so Kyle was now back in 1st Neal King in 2nd and Chris Slater in 3rd place, lap 82 Neal Kings conrod broke in his mega engine letting Chris into 2nd spot but now being pushed by Mark Gilliland who had fought his way back up the field by lap 98 Kyle was still in 1st place Mark Gilliland was back in 2nd place and Chris Slater in 3rd this was also the order they finished, Kyle now leads the 200mm Foam National Championship.

Many thanks from the BRCA 1/10TH IC Section to Snetterton Park and John Guest and our own Malcolm Norwood who setup a Wireless Networking to give us access to race results on our Laptops or PDA's. Thanks for a very smoothly run meeting.
